About the Fire Truck

In the mid 1950s, chapters across the nation began to adopt the fire truck as an unofficial symbol of the fraternity, many chapters purchased fire trucks to use for different purposes.  Eta Epsilon currently maintains a 1929 Seagraves pumper truck, which at one time was owned and operated by the San Angelo Fire Department.  Eta Epsilon purchased the truck from the Suez Shriners for $50 dollars in non-working order in 1972. The brothers rallied around the truck and restored it, having it sandblasted and repainted and placing a 1949 Buick straight engine into it.  The chapter again improved the truck in 1981 by placing a Ford 460 engine into it and painting it with high quality paint.  The truck became popular at many ASU events and around the San Angelo community and the chapter drove it everywhere they could; it became an icon of the fraternity.  After liability issues, insurance problems, and the truck being defaced by gangs in the late 80s, the chapter decided to no longer drive it.  After sitting still for a while, the Marines placed a trailer hitch on the front bumper of the truck to tow around at Toys for Tots events.  The chapter brings the fire truck out mainly for fall events such as football games, tailgates, and homecoming.
